Tank is an absolutely adorable 2 year old white (with a fawn brindle patch on left side of face) male American Pit Bull Terrier. This handsome bully boy was surrendered to a GA shelter by his owner in August 2007 when he realized he could not properly care for Tank; the shelter staff adores Tank and has done everything they can do to prevent him from being euthanized, including removing him from the "PTS" list each time he is scheduled to be put down. His life has been spared for months, but the shelter is reaching a point of not being able to continue doing this, and Tank needs placement ASAP. The shelter is willing to buy us a few more weeks to place Tank, but he desperately needs a foster or permanent home by the end of March- the sooner the better, since there are no guarantees that his life can be spared each time he's placed on the list. Tank promises life long affection and loyalty if you just give him a chance to prove how great he is....and spare his life one last time.
Tank is a pretty laid back guy to have been in a shelter for the past 6 months, though does enjoy a good session of the "zoomies" (as known to Pit owners as a 10-15 minute session of running around like a crazed Pittie, to the point of exhaustion, and then down for a good nap!), and then wants to chill. His favorite pastime activities include long walks, car rides, giving BIG wet kisses to everyone he meets, and rolling around in the grass, showing off his goofy side; he also shows interest in the water (kiddie pools) when the weather is nice. He's affectionate, intelligent, and ever-so-loyal. He's made it clear that he enjoys being spoiled, pampered, and loved. Tank enjoys toys (especially peanut butter filled kongs, balls, and squeakies), loves treats (pig ears, knuckle bones, pig skin twists.....), and loves to be in your lap at ALL times, despite being a large bully! He walks well on leash, and is working on basic commands- he listens well, shows strong desire to please his people, and is very responsive to training....he would benefit well from an owner who would like to challenge his mind. Tank makes no complaints about being handled all over or having items removed from his mouth- he's just glad to get the attention. We're told that Tank interacts well with kids, cats, and other dogs, though due to the Pit Bulls' tendency for same sex dog aggression, he will not be placed in a home with other male dogs.
Tank is working on housebreaking, and crate trained. He has been neutered, vaccinated, fecal tested and dewormed, treated for heartworms and heartworm tested negative and kept on heartworm prevention, and microchipped. There is a $175.00 adoption fee to partially reimburse the organization for the veterinary expenses listed above. Tank is looking for an INDOOR home, ONLY: we do not adopt to homes that will keep our rescued Pitties outdoors and/or on chains, runners, or in fences, kennels, pens, etc- If you cannot/will not provide an indoor home for our Bullies, or are looking to breed/fight, do NOT contact our organization (or apply for adoption) regarding Tank or any of our rescued Pit Bulls. Application, adoption fee, home checks, references, and contract are REQUIRED for adoption. To be considered for adoption, please fill out and submit an Application for Adoption BEFORE contacting us directly.
